Perrin's training in Tel'aran'rhiod begins to pay off with him nullifying all Slayer's attacks with willpower. The internal, emotional journey is also layered and complex, and the narration in this section is incredibly tight. A boy comes running to him, struggling to get Perrin’s attention, and tells him that Tam wants him to know that somebody is attacking the Trollocs. In my opinion, this is Jordan at his best. But Verin is another suspect, especially given her words to Perrin before the battle. Slayer was killed while in the form of Isam but it can be presumed that because of their link Luc died too. Perrin, with the aid of his wolf pack return toTel'aran'rhiod to confront Slayer. And Luc tells Gaul that he has spent many days in the Blight. My first thought was Birgitte, who we know can’t seem to stop herself from interfering but who is also not supposed to. Everywhere he finds the leaders standing tall and saying brave words, and the cheer of “Goldeneyes!” follows him as he passes. So much happens to the Two Rivers, to Perrin and Faile and Loial, and not just physically.
